· I found one of the most powerful things for me, has been deep breathing exercises. I think this is one of those yoga or meditation things, but it helps in any stressful situation. When that urge to smoke hits you, do the following 5 times: Inhale slowly, then exhale slowly through pursed lips. While you are doing this breathing, have your eyes closed and imagine all the stress in your body exiting through your finger tips and toes. On the last exhale, relax all your muscles. Imagine yourself in a relaxing environment and fully concentrate on that scene, allowing your mind to relax. Do this every time you come head on with stress. Sounds crazy, but it really helps.
· Change your surroundings when one of those cravings crops up, after you do your deep breathing. Go for a walk, do some exercises, clean up around the house, wash the dog, anything to just get past those first few minutes of a craving, then it will start to subside.
· Take up a new hobby. Do things to keep your hands and mind busy.
